As the network underpins all IT infrastructure, and infrastructure underpins your applications, a comprehensive testing phase is crucial to any Network Transformation. Testing ensures that your hardware is fit for purpose by providing the necessary functionality and performance to deliver the required user experience. It also ensures the resilience and security of your environment.
Testing is a key part of the Starfish Transformation methodology. It begins in the Design and Planning phase with the creation of the Test Plan, which is then executed during the Build Phase before handover to operations. The Test Plan will typically include the following.
- Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT): This ensures that hardware is fully operational on arrival from the vendor.
- Site Acceptance Testing (SAT): Connectivity, performance and failover testing are all carried to confirm that the site environment is ready for operational use.
- User Acceptance Testing (UAT): Detailed user functionality testing is completed to certify that the network is prepared for live production.
Starfish will iterate the Test Plan until all tests are successfully signed off. In the last twelve months, the testing process has allowed Starfish to successfully transition several projects into production, include a data centre rebuild for a higher education customer, a new OT network for a transport organisation, and a core network refresh for a service provider.
